At St Bernadette’s RC Primary School, all our pupils are explicitly taught the key knowledge and skills, which underpin all mathematical content outlined in the national curriculum: fluency, reasoning and problem solving. These three areas are key to creating a ‘well-rounded’ mathematician, which is vital to develop confidence and ambition for all, ultimately leading to the enjoyment and curiosity of Mathematics. All children, from EYFS to Year 6 access specific levels of maths to suit their individual needs with every child taking part in mastery lessons with the intention of getting deeper into their knowledge and develop a greater understanding of mathematical concepts. Our children make rich connections across mathematical ideas and show competence when solving problems of increasing complexity. We believe that through understanding the significance of Mathematics and its relation to the wider world, our pupils will then understand the true power of Mathematics and apply within their everyday life to become the best version of themselves as God intended.

Our Maths Subject Leader is Mrs Gallagher

“As a young pupil at St Bernadette’s, with lots of wonderful teachers, my love of numbers began! I loved solving problems and challenging myself to work with big numbers. I’ve always found it amazing that Maths is the same everywhere around the world. As Maths Lead, my goal is to ensure students enjoy Maths and have the opportunity to develop their problem solving and reasoning skills, as well as resilience as they overcome challenges”- Mrs Gallagher
