At St Bernadette’s RC Primary School, all our pupils are explicitly taught the key knowledge and skills, which underpin all mathematical content outlined in the national curriculum: fluency, reasoning and problem solving. These three areas are key to creating a ‘well-rounded’ mathematician, which is vital to develop confidence and ambition for all, ultimately leading to the enjoyment and curiosity of Mathematics. All children, from EYFS to Year 6 access specific levels of maths to suit their individual needs with every child taking part in mastery lessons with the intention of getting deeper into their knowledge and develop a greater understanding of mathematical concepts. Our children make rich connections across mathematical ideas and show competence when solving problems of increasing complexity. We believe that through understanding the significance of Mathematics and its relation to the wider world, our pupils will then understand the true power of Mathematics and apply within their everyday life to become the best version of themselves as God intended.

Our Maths Subject Leader is Mrs Mills

Being the Maths leader in St. Bernadette’s RC Primary school is a role I truly value. It is driven by my genuine love of numbers, patterns, and the satisfaction that comes from working things out. I enjoy the challenge of solving problems and exploring different strategies, and I am passionate about sharing that excitement with others. For me, Maths is not just about correct answers, but about curiosity, resilience, and the joy of discovery.

As a Maths leader, I strive to inspire young people to develop confidence in maths, think critically, and see patterns and connections in the world around them. My goal is to help every child believe that they can succeed in maths and to nurture a lifelong love of learning through engaging, purposeful, and meaningful mathematical experiences.” Mrs. Mills.
